A thicket-forming large shrub, or small tree, it has small, white clustered flowers that produce a dark, edible berry. A small number of raw berries may be eaten without consequence, but they must be cooked to remove mild toxicity. The flowers can be used in tea and other foods. It is fast-growing and often used as a riparian species for erosion control. The berries can be used in preserves, pies and to make wine. Can grow up to 20'.
